Defensive kickboxing is managed by:

Defensive Kickboxing* Defensive kickboxing represents the use of kickboxing techniques for the purposes of self-defence. The discipline of kickboxing (in its most popular sporting form) is recognised for its efficiency as a fighting contact sport that uses percussion techniques and can be used either in a recreational or competitive environment. Both help develop moral and therefore educational values. The media impact of kickboxing competitions does not mean that the discipline is limited to this nevertheless interesting face as a competitive sport, with technical and tactical considerations and sporting rules (ring, rounds, presence of a referee, special equipment, gloves, protection, impossibility to use some techniques or targets viewed as too sensitive). In light of the dangers in today’s society, the kickboxing federation created defensive kickboxing, in other words the application of kickboxing to self defence in a non-competitive environment. It organises specific training courses for instructors, since the basis for the application of the rules of defensive kickboxing is legitimate defence (as opposed to sporting regulations), as defined by the law and the knowledge of which is essential as “Nobody is above the law”! The defensive kickboxer never attacks but only defends, as per the name of this discipline, and only acts in legitimate and legal circumstances (using the same degree of force in reply to an unjustified, real and current attack). The technical scope of defensive kickboxing is widened in respect to the purely sporting practice: various defensive techniques at all levels using different parts of the body like the feet, fists, hands, elbows, knees; standing and floor techniques; punching, immobilisation, keys etc but also the use of objects (newspaper, keys, bag etc). These defence techniques, used in pairs, are designed for several targets, be they unarmed or armed with sticks, knives etc. Various strategies will be used and put into practice to be used before the fight, in order to do everything to avoid it (avoid risky places and situations, run if possible or negotiation whilst observing and assessing the attacker(s) and the environment in order to make the best use of this information). Mental and emotional preparation as well as the other elements mentioned will be used in practical situations for better self-control. So, combine “business and pleasure” with defensive kickboxing without forgetting the most important point: the real talent is not in winning a hundred fights out of a hundred, but making sure one is never involved in a fight. Defensive kickboxing: an additional qualification for kickboxing instructors . The technical progress of defensive kickboxing practitioners is linked to their progress in overall kickboxing, of which it is an additional speciality. Only the holders of a federal licence: - as a kickboxing coach (BFE) can obtain licences for defensive kickboxing (1st and 2nd levels) Taking part in national training courses Obtaining the different KBD diplomas: - 1st level: two weekends (2 x 12 hours), Federal Trainer Licence (BFI) Those not in possession of a Federal Trainer Licence in kickboxing can take part in these national training courses (with the same minimum attendance requirements) and obtain an appraisal of the technical level reached (not enabling to teach) which will allow them to obtain, by equivalence, the corresponding KBD licence (cf. table) once the Kickboxing BFE has been awarded. Holders of the Federal Professor Licence in kickboxing with prior knowledge of self-defence (or defensive kickboxing) can be excused from part of the training process if they specifically request this and if they pass an appraisal test following a weekend-long training course. Excerpts from the criminal code Legitimate defence: “Art. 122-5. There is no legal responsibility for whomever, after an unjustified attack on himself or a third party, accomplishes, at the same time, an act required by the use for the legitimate defence of himself or a third party, unless there is a disproportion between the means of defence used and the seriousness of the attack”. “There is no legal responsibility for whomever, in order to interrupt the execution of a crime or a misdemeanour against a person, accomplishes an act of defence, other than a voluntary homicide, when this act is strictly necessary for the goals sought, as long as the means of defence used are proportionate to the seriousness of the attack”. “Art. 122-6. Legitimate defence can be considered to cover whomever accomplishes an act: 1° to fight away, during the night, an act of forced entry, violence or cunning in an inhabited area; 2° to protect himself against perpetrators of robbery or looting undertaken with violence.” State of urgency: “Art 122-7. There is no legal responsibility for whomever, faced with an immediate or imminent danger towards himself, a third party or an possession, accomplishes an act to save the person of the possession, unless there is a disproportion between the means of defence used and the seriousness of the attack”. Non-assistance to persons in danger: “Whomever is able to prevent by immediate action, without putting himself or a third party in danger, a crime or a misdemeanour against the physical integrity of a person, and voluntarily abstains from doing so, is liable to a five year prison sentence and a fine of 75000 euros.” “The same punishment will be used for whomever voluntarily abstains from assisting, without putting himself or a third party in danger, a person in danger either personally or by calling the appropriate help.” Excerpts from the code of criminal procedure. Stopping a perpetrator caught in the act: “Art. 73. In the case of an obvious crime or misdemeanour taking place, anybody is apt to apprehend the perpetrator and escort him to the nearest criminal police officer.”
